Sinking Spring gets new restaurant; BerksCounty Living names Best of Berks

Salute Opens in Sinking Spring
Sinking Spring has a new Italian Restaurant with the opening of Salute Ristorante Italiano. According to Salute’s website, the menu features “a blend of traditional offerings with the authentic flavors of modern Italian cuisine.” Chef Peppe Agliano, ambassador for The Italian Academy of Historical Gastronomy, is Salute’s chef. The restaurant opened last Monday in the former Frank’s NY Pizza in the Fecera’s Furniture Strip Mall.

Van Reed Inn Unveils Menu
The Van Reed Inn, set to re-open under new ownership, has unveiled its menu on its Facebook page. The Van Reed Inn will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering a variety of options for all three meals. The menu is subject to change prior to opening. You can view the menu here. The new restaurant is opening in the former Milan’s Van Reed Inn along Route 183 in Bern Township.

Berks County Living Announces Best of Berks Winners
Berks County Living Magazine has announced its annual Best of Berks 2014 list. Readers voted for their favorite businesses in a variety of categories, including 15 food and dining categories. It would be hard for me to argue against any of the winners on this list, and unlike the Reading Eagle’s Reader Choice winners, not a single chain restaurant earned top honors.

There were, however, several restaurants that earned awards from both publications. Exeter Family Restaurant doubled up on Best Diner. Tomcat Cafe earned Best Brunch from both the Eagle and Berks County Living. Go Fish! earned Best Sushi honors again. And Judy’s on Cherry was twice in a winner for Best Fine Dining.
